Wednesday Wisdom: Use Archive to Redesign Your Instagram Profile

Here’s a couple of ways to use Archive to keep your feed fresh.

By Kelly Johnson

Instagram announced last June that Instagram Stories would be automatically saved in the Archive tab on your profile. But, here’s a little-known fact: You can archive regular Instagram posts, as well.

The Instagram Archive feature allows users to hide posts from the public without deleting them. Plus, you get to keep the engagement data for the posts, so you know who liked and commented.

What’s more, archiving posts is reversible. You can easily un-Archive the post whenever you want, and it will appear in its original spot.

When it comes to managing your personal or business brand on Instagram, the archive is an underrated feature. As you fine-tune your Instagram presence, you can archive the posts that are no longer relevant or on-brand for your profile — helping you keep your feed up-to-date.

Here’s a couple of ways to use Archive to keep your feed fresh.

Use Archive to See How Your Photos Fit Together

The “Top 9” of your Instagram profile — the first nine photos that show above the fold on your profile — should tell a story and make a positive impact on new visitors. Instagram Archive gives you the option to easily redesign your feed by archiving the photos that no longer fit in the Top 9.

Redesign Your Profile for Promotional Purposes

Do you want to promote a new product or your new single? A creative way to draw attention to your feed ahead a major announcement is to temporarily hide your other posts.

Here’s How to Use Instagram Archive

To archive a post:

  1. Go to your profile
  2. Tap the three dots above the post you’d like to archive
  3. Select “Archive”

To show again an archived post in its original spot:

  1. Go to your profile and tap the clock in the top right
  2. Tap the post you’d like to show on your profile
  3. Tap the three dots above the post, then select “Show on Profile”
