Social Media Content Ideas for Every Day in September

September 1 National Cherry Popover Day
If you’ve been good about watching what you eat all summer, it’s time to treat yourself — especially on cherry popover day. Make some cherry popovers, and post step-by-step instructions on how to make them on Instagram. Share photos of the results.

September 2 VJ Day, WWII
History buffs will know what the “VJ” in VJ Day stands for, but for the uninitiated, this day marks the Allies victory over Japan (VJ). Post a little history about VJ Day on Twitter and tag some of the resources you’ve used to research this day.

September 3 Labor Day
The three-day weekend you’ve been waiting for is here. On Labor Day, encourage your followers to get out their grills one last time and invite some friends over. Create a quick video tutorial for YouTube or IGTV that includes decorating ideas and recipes for BBQ.

September 4 Newspaper Carrier Day
Say thank you to your newspaper carrier by surprising him or her with a gift (preferably something that fits in a bike basket). Share your experience by posting the video on Instagram.

September 5 Be Late for Something Day
Are you constantly running late? September 5 is the one day where you can get away with it. Create an IG Story and use their new Question feature and ask your followers to find out what they’ll be late for this year.

September 6 Read a Book Day
On Read a Book Day Post your current reading list — don’t forget to tag the authors. You can also ask your community what they’re reading right now on Facebook.

September 7 National Salami Day
How do you eat your salami? On a pizza or straight up? Post a few recipes on Facebook for your followers to celebrate this holiday.

September 8 International Literacy Day
Nearly 32 million adults in the U.S. can’t read. We can all do our part promote literacy. Encourage your Twitter followers to donate to charitable organizations that want to help others.

September 9 Grandparents Day
Honor your grandparents on Instagram by posting some of your favorite pictures of them. You can create a fun essay contest on this channel by asking your followers to post photos of their grandparents and include a short paragraph on how they’ve influenced their lives.

September 10 Swap Ideas Day
It’s important to keep ideas fresh. Ask your followers to tweet the best idea they ever had and give the most interesting submission a prize.

September 11 Make Your Bed Day
Let’s admit it: We don’t all make our beds every morning. Make your bed (just this once) and ask your followers to post a photo of their freshly made beds on Instagram. You can also give out superlatives, like “best corners” and “trendiest pillows.”

September 12 National Chocolate Milkshake Day
Do you have a favorite restaurant that makes a killer chocolate milkshake? You can either take a photo of you enjoying that treat. Or, try to make one yourself. Post a recipe (with a photo) of the best chocolate milkshake. Don’t forget to post photos on Instagram of you drinking the milkshake, too.

September 13 Uncle Sam Day
Here’s a fun history tidbit: Uncle Sam got his name from a meatpacker in 1812 who was named Sam Wilson. Sam would deliver meat to soldiers, and he would stamp “US” on the package to indicate it was from his business. The soldiers soon nicknamed him, “Uncle Sam.” Uncle Sam Day recognizes Wilson who was born on this day in 1766. You can dress up like Uncle Sam, and post the photo on Instagram with the history lesson.

September 14 National Cream-Filled Donut Day
Who doesn’t love a cream-filled donut? Visit your favorite bakery and order a cream-filled treat and post a selfie with your donut on Instagram. Ask your followers their favorite spots for cream-filled donuts.

September 15 Make a Hat Day
This is the perfect holiday for DIYers. Make a Hat Day challenges amateur hat makers to create their own caps. Record a YouTube or IGTV video of you creating a hat and don’t forget to post the instructions in the description.

September 16 Step Family Day
Post a video on Instagram thanking all of the stepmothers, stepfathers, brothers and sisters who prove that family isn’t something you’re born into.

September 17 Emmy Awards
The Emmy Awards air on this day. Post the list of nominees and ask your fans and followers to vote on which shows or actors will  take home the coveted trophy.

September 18 National Cheeseburger Day
This day is sure to spark debate. Americans love cheeseburgers and are dogmatic about where to find the best one. You can launch a Twitter poll or ask your followers where they go to get their favorite cheeseburgers. If there’s a popular location near you that your fans love, grab a burger and post it on Instagram.

September 19 International Talk Like a Pirate Day
Talk Like a Pirate Day is a social media favorite. Join in the fun and record yourself talking like a pirate, and post the final product on Facebook. Ask your followers to respond with videos of themselves talking in pirate voices in the comments.

September 20 National Pepperoni Pizza Day
Visit your fave pizzeria, and ask the kitchen staff if you can film them flipping dough. Post the video on Instagram for your followers.

September 21 International Peace Day
With all of the political discourse going on in the world, it’s nice to think about peace. Ask your followers what a peaceful world would look like to them. Invite them to donate one of these organizations.

September 22 Business Women’s Day
More women are making significant headway in the business world but there’s more work to be done. Remind your followers of the long and winding road by posting a list of famous business women.

September 23 Autumn Equinox
Fall officially starts today! Celebrate by posting a photo with your fave autumnal drink or snack. Challenge your audience to post something other than a Pumpkin Spice Latte.

September 24 National Cherries Jubilee Day
This is an extraordinary dessert that can be delicious — if done right. Try to make this dessert and post the result on your Twitter and Instagram. You can also explain the history of Cherries Jubilee.

September 25 National Comic Book Day
Comic book geeks around the world will descend on social media to discuss the best graphic novel series on National Comic Book Day. Join the conversation and throw in your pick for your favorite comic book. Or you can dress up like your favorite comic book superhero and ask someone to take photos of you while you do good deeds all day.

September 26 Johnny Appleseed Day
Ask your followers to celebrate Johnny Appleseed by making a dish featuring apples. Make this apple pie, and post the results on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

September 27 Crush a Can Day
Recycling and keeping our environment clean is the focus of Crush a Can Day. Encourage your followers to recycle by inviting them to crush as many cans as possible that they find on the side of the street. Post a video of you crushing your own cans.

September 28 Native American Day
Pay homage to the people who inhabited North America before any of us by posting some Native American history on your Twitter.
