Need Social Media Post ideas? Here’s Content for Every Day in February

We're not short on great ideas for social media content. Take a look.

By Eric Meyerson

February is the shortest month, but loaded with opportunities to create great content for your social media followers. Here are some social media content ideas for posting every day this month.

Remember, the entire 28 days comprise Black History Month, so you will likely find many authentic and inspiring things to post. This year’s theme, commemorating 100 years since the end of World War I, is African Americans in Times of War.

Now let’s check out what’s happening in February. (Or are you looking for January social media posting ideas?)

February 1-10, 2018

February 1: Celebrate your freedom to do just about anything you want on National Freedom Day! (Well, anything within reason.) Or take a break from arguing with your friends and family on No Politics Day.

February 2: Time to see how many more weeks of winter we’ll need to suffer through on Groundhog Day. Keep your eyes out for Punxsutawney Phil. Happy Bubble Gum Day! Pop a few bubbles of your favorite flavors to honor this tasty holiday. Also, it’s Christie Brinkley’s birthday! Wish the model and actress a happy birthday by blasting “Uptown Girl” by Billy Joel.

February 3: Celebrate Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day by serving yourself up a huge scoop of your favorite flavor. Sprinkle some frosted corn flakes on top to give it some crunch (and for a bit of nutrition). This will make a killer photo post. Or you can pay homage to The Day the Music Died today by blasting a bit of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. They all died in a plane crash on this day in 1959.

February 4: Celebrate one of the tastiest days of the year — Stuffed Mushroom Day — by cooking up some of these tasty morsels yourself. Mix bread crumbs, butter and chopped-up mushroom stems. Fill the caps with the mixture, and bake at 350 degrees F. (Yes, you get recipes here, too.) And happy Super Bowl Sunday! Bring some leftovers from Stuffed Mushroom Day to your best pal’s house for the big game.

February 5: Even weather forecasters need a little love sometimes. Celebrate National Weatherman’s Day by sending your favorite weather guy or gal some appreciation on your socials. Today is also William S. Burroughs’ birthday. Celebrate this author by enjoying a little lunch in the nude (within the privacy of your own home, of course), or sharing the strangest Nike ad of all time.

February 6: Head out to your favorite dim sum palace, or call the sushi delivery spot on your speed dial. It’s time to celebrate National Chopsticks Day!  Get some good foodie shots, and whatever you do, don’t use the plastic forks that arrive in your take-out bag. It’s also Babe Ruth’s birthday, so celebrate by having some drinks and hitting a few balls at the ole batting cage today, or reminiscing about other one-sided trades.

February 7: Say happy birthday to Ashton Kutcher by reminiscing about your favorite episode of That ’70s Show or that time someone dragged you to Jobs. Today is also Send a Card to a Friend Day. Celebrate by sending a card to a friend. It can even be a virtual one over social media.

February 8: Boy Scout Day is officially here. Boy scouting was invented on this day in 1910. Share how you appreciate nature and show off your survival skills. Celebrate Kite Flying Day by heading to a warmer climate for the sheer pleasure of flying a kite.

February 9: Today is National Pizza Day, so stroll up to your favorite pizzeria and order yourself a slice of your fave pie. Pizza shots always perform well on Instagram. You can also say happy birthday to actor Joe Pesci by quoting a line from one of your favorite movies: “The two yutes! I said the two yutes!” Or if you’re feeling more daring, quote some Goodfellas. (“How am I funny?”)

February 10: Happy Umbrella Day! Raining or not, do you have an adorable umbrella you’ve never shared? Or maybe a junker you bought at CVS that ripped up last time it encountered a breeze? Emma Roberts’s birthday is also today. Say happy birthday to one of your favorite up-and-coming actors by watching the TV show “Unfabulous.”

Week of February 11, 2018

February 11: Celebrate Make a Friend Day by doing what you do best: making new friends! (Even Facebook “friends.”) National Inventors Day is also today, so celebrate by inventing something unique and worthy of all the inventors who came before you, or showing off an idea of yours. If you can’t think of something new to invent, celebrate by using a Post-It, invented 50 years ago today.

February 12: Today is Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. Say happy birthday to Honest Abe by donning your own stovepipe hat, or more seriously considering all that he did to shape what America became after the Civil War. Whew! Clean Out Your Computer Day never comes a moment too soon! Get rid of all your old files by cleaning shop today. Take a screenshot of the warning before you delete 3,870 files.

February 13: Ever wish you could be a totally different person? Today is Get a Different Name Day, so you can change your name for the day. (On Twitter, go ahead and change your display name for a few hours, see how it feels.) And happy Fat Tuesday! Do as they do in England and Ireland, and stuff yourself silly with pancakes! If you don’t do pancakes, at least take this opportunity to enjoy as much as possible before Lent.

February 14: Have a heart! Or better yet, give yours away. Let’s all take a moment to get serious for National Organ Donor Day. If you’re not an organ donor, consider taking some time to add yourself to the registry, then encourage your followers to do the same. It only takes a few minutes, and you could potentially save dozens of lives. Oh, and happy Valentine’s Day! Kiss the one you love, or if you can’t kiss the one you love — kiss the one you’re with.

February 15th: Celebrate Singles Awareness Day by enjoying your single status or by buying some flowers for a single friend! Susan B. Anthony was born on this day. Celebrate women’s rights by signing a petition or showing your support for #TimesUp.

February 16th: Happy Chinese New Year! Go find a Chinatown to celebrate. Today is also Do a Grouch a Favor Day! Find your favorite grouch and do something nice for him or her.

February 17th: Celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day by doing something nice for a random stranger. Pay for the coffee for the person behind you in line. Or find a GoFundMe for someone in need, and donate and publicize it. Also, it’s Michael Jordan’s birthday today! Celebrate with your MJ memories, or by helping a neighborhood kid in need.

Week of February 18, 2018

February 18th: Happy birthday Dr. Dre! Celebrate Dre’s birthday by sharing some of his original hits And can it be? It’s National Drink Wine Day! The perfect way to observe this holiday is… you figure it out.

February 19th: President’s Day is today. Celebrate by dressing like your favorite president. Just kidding. Everybody would be dressed like Chester Arthur if you did that. It’s also Chocolate Mint Day if you’re not so civically-minded.

February 20th: Cherry Pie Day is today! If you post a picture of cherry pie, you will get many likes. If you add ice cream, you will get even more. If you add cheese, maybe not so many. Love Your Pet Day is also today, and it’s the easiest holiday to celebrate.

February 21st: Alan Rickman’s birthday is today! Pay homage to the late, great actor by marathoning the entire  Harry Potter series or maybe Die Hard. Nina Simone’s birthday is also today. Dust off your old records and sing your own rendition of “Backlash Blues” today.

February 22nd: Say happy to George Washington on his birthday by telling only the truth today. Or, at least reenact the first inauguration by heading to Wall Street in New York City. And it’s National Margarita Day today! Shake up a margarita by mixing one shot of tequila with the juice of two limes and a tablespoon of agave. Serve in a glass with a salted rim. Photograph and share and hashtag that thing. Then drink.

February 23rd: Today is Tennis Day. Great opportunity to show off how you look in whites. The American author and civil rights activist W.E.B. Du Bois was also born on this day. Pay homage to one of history’s greatest men by reading about Du Bois.

February 24th: National Tortilla Chip Day is today! Make a spread of some chips and guacamole. Buy your favorite brand of chips, or make your own by heating up some tortillas in a 350-degree oven. Celebrate Open That Bottle Night by opening a bottle of one of your most favorite wines, whiskies or non-alcoholic drinks. What are you saving it for anyway?

Week of February 25, 2018

February 25th: Chelsea Handler’s birthday is today! Celebrate by making your friends laugh so hard that soda squirts out their noses. Maybe you could even toast Handler with a little bit of vodkaUkrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka was born on this day! Get familiar with her works by checking out a few. Or write a few of your own poems.

February 26th: Carnival Day is today! If you don’t live in a city that celebrates, that’s okay. Make your own Carnival Day celebrations by dressing up in bright colors and parading down the street. It’s also National Pistachio Day! If you celebrate today right, you could be rich in protein. Crush up some pistachios and sprinkle them on yogurt or ice cream (preferably pistachio).

February 27th: Polar Bear Day is today. Find out how you can help to save endangered polar bears. It’s also Happy No Brainer Day, which was invented to remind us that many things aren’t as complicated as they seem. Take on a sticky project you’ve avoiding, and you’ll see how far you can get once you dig in.

February 28th: Mardi Gras is today! If you live in New Orleans, you’ve probably got the day off. If you don’t live in the Big Easy, you can still celebrate on your own. Bake a king cake to make the day extra special. Just don’t forget to hide the baby inside (or take it out before you eat it). And if you drink too much, it’s also Public Sleeping Day. Just pick a safe spot, okay?
